Don’t be afraid to sell to your friends

Don’t be afraid to show off your products and sell them to your friends. So if you’ve been with me for any length of time, you know, I sell audiobooks and, and everything of the sort. I teach people how to do it as well, and I also help people make them.

I even will narrate audiobooks for other people as well. So, whenever I have a new audiobook or new project I’m working on I will gladly show it to people that I know in my community or, that I’ve grown up with.

Recently, I went to my barber, and she was impressed with what I did. I showed off my new audiobook to her and she was amazed how I got it onto Audible. I built her curiosity. She wondered how it worked and what the process was to get it on Audible.

She was impressed. She said, “You did that? You put that on audible? That’s amazing”. People want to want the best for you. The friends that, you know, the family, you know, they want the best for you and, and, and, you know, they will support you. I mean, some of them will buy your products. They’re going to be impressed.

They’re going to be happy. And it’s worth it. You know, selling to your friends because, you know, you can entertain them. You can make shirts for them. You can. Many small knit communities had someone, oh, you’re going to make Wicker baskets for fruit picking. So you’re going to be the Wicker basket maker.

You’re going to be. The one who makes clothes and everything, and it worked, this is a great way to get into the community and develop your friendships as well. As you develop your friendships, people will you know, gravitate to you. Once you have that relationship established, they will love to support you any way they can, even if it’s non-financial, even if it’s just subscribing to your YouTube channel, like mine, they will do it.

I have 60 YouTube subscribers, six zero subscribers. So that is something to be proud of. Or my friends, some of them are people I’ve never met. But I still wouldn’t have gotten to this point without the support of my friends and family. So there’s that I also wouldn’t have no, you know, net the, you know, wouldn’t have sold as many products had I not met the people I met, so yeah. There’s that.

Of course, I will sell to someone, I know who is a friend of mine. There’s nothing wrong with that. The reason why you should sell to your friends is that you’ll benefit their lives. Also, that will make the world a better place as well.

So, don’t be afraid to sell to your friends. If they say no, move along, don’t destroy any relationships, and be respectful as well. You can also ask for references. I mean, they will give you references for people and clients. Your friends may be impressed and say things such as, “look at my friend’s work. You should work with him.”

I knew when one of my clients said, “Oh yeah, I’m going to email my friend and let her know about your audiobook.” They will gladly go to bat for you. So don’t be afraid to ask references or get five-star ratings or get likes on your YouTube videos and subscribers, the whole nine yards, you know, as you sell too if you sell your friends, And you’re not, you’re not scamming them.

You’re not doing anything immoral. You aren’t putting out a quality product. Both will benefit because, in trade, you will benefit from so many things being exchanged. The reason why someone was able to trade a paper clip and turn it into a house, was because he brought value from each trade.

He didn’t get there just by strangers. He benefited someone else. So he had to establish some relationships, even if it was with a stranger, he still benefited someone. So in the pure sense, trade benefits everyone because they can’t because they don’t know how to do something.

They need a service to get that done. Or they want a product for themselves. I do want to leave on this. Sell your friends, get out in the community. Also, let me bring this point up. Back where I used to live, I would walk down to the community area where we weren’t, and there were so many, and there were people selling fruits.

There were people selling vegetables. They grew those vegetables in their apartments by their window sills. Like, like you could find it all. And that’s how they got better. That’s how they got to a better place financially is because they got out. They made connections, they got numbers, email addresses, and they were able to start businesses on their own.

Now I’m a bit different. I have to do this digitally for the most part. I could still go and sell the audiobook via CD if I wanted to do it. But CDs are expensive, and I already have my laptop. I’ve got everything I need and, and most people who search for audiobooks will search audible. But remember that we need to find a community of people. We need to get references and build strong relationships.

We can find them. And we can get to a better place. So I’ll leave it at that. If you liked what you read here. Follow me on Medium and subscribe to me on substack here:
