How To Find Cheaper Equipment for Hockey Players
The start of sports season. We’ve all been there. You know the feeling. Especially if you are a parent. Sports equipment can be the biggest cost for you for the sports season. Hockey is one of the most expensive sports. Especially for youth sports. If you are a parent, or someone new to the game, here are three ways to get started in finding more affordable equipment.
1. The NHL learn to play program:
Learn to Play is a program that provides an opportunity for families to join the hockey community and for potential players to build their hockey skills to help them succeed both on and off the ice. Created jointly by the National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) and the National Hockey League (NHL). Learn to Play’s goal is to inspire youth and welcome new kids to the sport of hockey.
The cost of the program can range from $190 to about $275. All of the necessary equipment will be provided after purchase. Now, this can be different depending on each city. But if you sign up for the program youth players will be fitted for gear. Also, please be sure to register at least three weeks in advance to guarantee on time delivery of equipment.
2. Gear Swaps:
Gear swaps are like good will for hockey players. If you have old equipment, you can get rid of it and give it to someone else. This is also good for new players because they can get gear for free and if they outgrow that equipment, they can always buy new gear for a market price.
3. Don’t buy the top of the line gear:
You don’t have to buy top of the line gear to have quality equipment. There is always new types of equipment coming to market every year. There is pre-owned equipment that you can buy. Also, there are cheaper items released that can still be effective in protecting you on the ice.
