An Areil view of Memorial Stadium

Memorial Stadium was opened on April 24, 1950, but its history dates back to 1922 when the site hosted a smaller venue known as Venable Stadium or Municipal Stadium. The Baltimore Orioles would not be the only tenants of this venue. The Baltimore Colts would play there from 1953 to 1983. Also, the Baltimore Stallions of the CFL would play there in 1994 and 1995. At the time, the stadium could seat approximately 53,371 people for football games and around 48,055 for baseball games. Just like any other multi-purpose venue at the time, there were plenty of viewing sights that weren’t optimal for fan experiences.

Memorial stadium would get to host several World Series. The stadium would host games for the 1966 World Series, the 1966 World Series, the 1970 World Series, and the 1983 World Series games. Memorial Stadium would even get to host many famous concerts. Some famous bands that played there were the Beatles, the Who, Black Sabbath, the Eagles and the Rolling Stones.

The Baltimore city skyline was a highlight of Memorial Stadium. The stadium was open in centerfield, with no upper deck seating in center field. While the viewing sights for the game were not optimal for most fans, every fan could atleast have a nice view of the Baltimore City Skyline.

Oriole Park at Camden Yards would replace Memorial Stadium in April of 1992. However, Memorial Stadium would host the Baltimore Stallions of the CFL (Candian Football League). Demolition of Memorial Stadium began in February, 2001 and was completed in the Spring of 2002.
