Producing a quality Audio book has never been easier

If you ever wanted to produce an audio book with studio quality audio, this era is the perfect time. Today, you can produce an audio book in your closet at home with a good quality microphone. You can use free software such as Audacity or Adobe Audition. Adding sound effects to your audio clips has also become easier to edit. You can now go onto the internet and download royalty free sound effects. In addition to adding sound effects, you can time it with precision so that it will sound perfect when you complete the file.

Soundtracks can help make any story more memorable. From ‘Star Wars to The Sound of Music’, a fitting soundtrack can make the difference between being memorable and great or just an ordinary audio book.

E-readers are another tool that you can use. To avoid background noise you will want to get an e-reader with a touch screen. If you are reading off a laptop, you will most likely pick up some background noise when you click on the next page. While you will have a clicking sound when you stop you can delete that part of the segment right away. But when you are switching pages you don’t want your microphone picking up any excess noise. Having an e-reader helps you avoid background noise and it helps when you go back to edit your segments.

The closet is your home studio. If you can afford to rent out a studio then I recommend doing that. However, most people will record at home. Here is my step by step process to setting up your home studio.

1. Pick a closet and make sure that it’s insulated.
2. Put your microphone, laptop and or mouse onto a flat surface such as a desk and put it in the closet.
3. Open up your laptop hit record and read your script.
4. Edit your segments. Add any music or sound effects you want.
