Talking about Fenway Park
Fenway Park was built in 1912 in Boston. This makes Fenway Park the oldest ballpark still being used today. Fenway Park is one of the smallest modern-day stadiums both when it comes to seating and the field itself. Fenway has a seating capacity of 37,755.
The stadium has a left field of 310 ft (94.5 m), a center field of 389 ft 9 in (118.8 m), and a right field of 302 ft (92 m). The right field foul pole is called the Pesky Pole, due to its short distance to home plate. The green monster in left field is most famous for taking away home runs from right handed batters because the wall is just over 37 feet tall.
Fenway has had many significant sports moments throughout its 113 years of history. It has hosted the Boston Red sox, the Boston Patriots, two winter classics, dozens of playoff games and concerts. Since 1912 the Red Sox were the primary tenant of Fenway. It was an excellent place to play baseball when it first opened. There have been many World Series and playoff games held there. Some of the most historic moments were held at Fenway. It also made NHL history when it hosted the 2010 and the 2023 NHL Winter Classics.
The Boston Patriots played at Fenway from 1963 to 1969. They would later move to Foxbauragh, MA in 1971. This was a benefit for the Red Sox because Fenway wouldn’t need to transition from football to baseball. Also, it is rarely ever an optimal experience when fans view a football game in a baseball-specific stadium.
Fenway is a ballpark that set the standards for what we know MLB stadiums to be today. It has unique features such as a manual scoreboard, and the infrastructure is still up to date. Many other MLB stadiums would go on to create their own unique features as a result of Fenway. This stadium will continue to host the Red Sox and bring entertainment to millions in the Boston area.
