We are told from a young age that we must go to college to succeed in life. That could not be further from the truth. Today, you have many other options. From trades to starting your own business, you can create a living for yourself in nontraditional ways. These careers include Youtube, blue-collar jobs, some office work, and online teaching.
YouTubers or social media stars have been becoming famous since the late 2000s. One of the most famous YouTubers of all time is perhaps Jimmy Donaldson, AKA Mr. Beast. Mr. Beast creates videos that generate upwards of 50 million views. He can easily make $100,000 in one afternoon with one video. Getting to that level of notoriety is more than a challenge. For example, most people don’t know who I am at this time. I’m just a guy trying to become someone of notoriety. For someone like me to get to that level, I would have to create a lot of content, and I would need to make sure it went viral. I could make this happen one of two ways. One of them would be I pay someone to do it for me. Or I can email my friends and tell them to share it.
Trades and Blue-collar jobs are part of the backbone of America. Along with small businesses, they provide some of the most essential services that a modern-day society requires. If you don’t have people, maintaining toilets, electrical equipment, etc., things begin to collapse. Mechanics are just one of many jobs in this sector. Mechanics are tradesmen who repair and sometimes even build cars. Mechanics play a vital role in our lives because, without someone to repair your vehicle, you are stuck and unable to go where you want. Tradesmen provide essential services for our society, and without those services, we would have to repair everything ourselves.
Office work is the most common job. Many people still go into debt to get one of these jobs. Today that is not necessary. With sites such as Upwork and Fiverr you can find work from people looking to hire someone to do admin work. You can start with a $5 job. Once you gain a little bit of confidence, you can take a job by the hour. What separates a job, such as traditional work in an office, is that you can work from anywhere. As long as you have an internet connection, You can work from anywhere you want, doing the work you want to do. You also don’t need a degree to do it.
Online teaching has become easier to do since Zoom blew up. You can teach anything you want to. You can take credit cards or PayPal and earn an income that way. A prime example of this would be Zoom yoga. Yoga has become much more popular ever since the turn of the decade. You can now take your knowledge of Yoga and teach someone who wants to learn. There are also little to no overhead costs to running an online teaching webinar since the internet is usually one of the few barriers to entry.
If more people took a gap year to discover their true passions and the lines of work that they want to be in, you would see fewer people complain about their job. According to a recent Deloitte study from 2017, only 13% of people were satisfied with their job. Today, you can create and think about your self-interests when searching for a career.
